Chandler's Orchard & Country Market

A u-pick orchard and country market at Fillmore in Putnam County, west of Indianapolis, with a strong local reputation: 4.9 stars across 110 ratings, higher than any other farm in this directory. Founded in 1975 when Jerry and Vyanne Chandler bought a grain farm and converted it to orchard; now worked by the second, third and fourth generations, with son Matt running the operation. Roughly 14 acres of apples, a 5-acre strawberry patch and about seven acres of pumpkins. Heirloom varieties rarely offered elsewhere in the state sit alongside commercial names - Priscilla, Brown Russet, Blue Pearmain, Strawberry Pippin and Hudson's Golden Gem. U-pick strawberries end of May into early June (reached by tractor ride), apples September-October, pumpkins from the second week of September. Market carries jam, sorghum, BBQ sauce, popcorn and pasture-raised meats, plus a cafe food truck. Horse-drawn hayrides behind Percheron draft horses on September and October weekends; tractor-drawn hayrides midweek must be booked in advance through the website. Google lists Tuesday to Saturday 10am-6pm, closed Monday and Sunday. Plenty of parking.
