Cook's Orchard and Farm Market

An orchard and farm market inside Fort Wayne at the corner of Huguenard and Wallen Roads, west of Lima Road. Family owned since 1977, when it started as a hobby with 75 apple trees; peach and pear trees were added yearly and the salesroom opened in 1987. Several hundred trees today. U-pick apples on dwarf trees, easy reach for children, plus u-pick Asian pears while they last and pre-picked brushed apples including Honeycrisp in the store. Red Haven peaches from early August, apples ready from early September. On-site cider mill pressing weekly in season; honey from hives on the farm, plus eggs, jams, jellies, pickles and beeswax candles. Purchases work on an honour system - a sign asks you to drop cash or a cheque into a mailbox inside the store. Restrooms are portable toilets. Google lists daily 10am-5pm, but the farm asks you to check the website for weekly hours and what is ripe, and to call ahead if you are visiting or touring. One reviewer found the school field-trip programme thin, so set expectations for groups.
