Evansville Countryside Orchard

An owner-run u-pick orchard in the north-east corner of Vanderburgh County, just west of I-69 at Exit 18, on close to 50 acres of rolling ground surrounded by corn and soybean fields. Formerly Engelbrecht's Countryside Orchard: Joe Black bought it in late 2014, and his daughter Kristi Schulz and her husband Tim now run it under the Evansville Countryside Orchard name. The trees were planted in 2005 and 2006. Older listings using the Engelbrecht name may refer to this farm or to the separate Engelbrecht Orchard at Newburgh in Warrick County. Peaches are the main crop, not apples - they run a Peach Express programme with Indiana Grown delivering tree-ripened peaches to partner locations around the state. Also strawberries, sweet cherries, nectarines, plums, apples, pumpkins and a sunflower patch. Rows are labelled with variety and what is currently ready; wagons are provided. Owners are described as candid about what is and is not in season. Farm dog Mollie greets visitors. Restrooms are portable toilets. Google lists 9am-4pm Monday to Friday and Sunday, with a short 9am-1pm on Saturday - worth noting, as Saturday is the day most people would plan the drive. Field trips and orchard tours for groups. Also sells at Market on Main EVV (Wednesdays) and the Franklin Street Bazaar (Saturdays), plus the Local Source online market. This is a real working farm with uneven, grass-covered ground - relevant for strollers, wheelchairs and anyone unsteady on their feet. One reviewer reported roughly $3/lb u-pick apples and poor fruit condition on a late-season visit; seconds sold at half price.
