Joe Huber's Family Farm & Restaurant

The second of the two large Starlight farms, a mile from Huber's Orchard & Winery and run by distant relatives of the same family - the two are entirely separate businesses. Joseph Huber Sr. and his wife Mary bought what is now this farm in 1926 and raised eleven children on it; the u-pick business was started by Joe Huber and his wife Bonnie in 1967, and the restaurant was built in July 1983, among the first farm-to-table restaurants in the country. The eighth generation now lives here. The u-pick operation is still active and the farm publishes its own picking schedule, separate from the neighbouring Huber's. After a 2019 replanting of apple, peach and cherry trees and strawberries, those plantings should now be bearing. The restaurant and its country fried chicken, fried biscuits and apple butter are the main draw, served family-style; 4.4 across 2,436 ratings and a $30-ish buffet on event days. Also a farm market, gift shop, soda and ice cream shop, Barnyard Playground, stocked fish pond and event venue, plus a VRBO rental in the original farmhouse (Uncle Joe's Bird Nest). Google now shows 11am-7pm Monday and Thursday to Sunday, closed Tuesday and Wednesday - Monday opening is a change from the previously recorded Thursday-to-Sunday pattern. Gets very crowded on holiday weekends; a Mother's Day reviewer waited 20 minutes past a booked time. The business went through a family ownership transition around 2018, when a group within the Huber family bought the core of the operation at public auction; it continued operating without interruption. The address is listed as Starlight, matching the farm's own usage; regional press sometimes writes Borden, the postal town for the Starlight area.
