McClure's Orchard & Winery

An 80-acre orchard, cider mill and hard cidery on US-31 about 5 miles north of Peru. 4.5 across 301 ratings. The trees date to a few dozen planted around the First World War; the McClure family took over in 1999 and expanded it to roughly 7,000 trees and about 150 apple varieties, still planting more. Winemaking and cider-making since 2009, and they took Cidery/Meadery of the Year at the 2025 Indiana State Fair Brewer's Cup with multiple first-place ciders - one reviewer with wide cider experience rates the dry ciders alongside good English ciders and the Laphroaig-barrel Scotchy Scotch among the best anywhere. Entry is free and you pay for what you pick - no admission or parking fee, which is unusual among farms this size. U-pick apples from around Labor Day weekend, reached by tractor and trolley tours through the groves, at about $10 a peck; the trolley extends to the pumpkin patch for u-pick from late September through October. Apple season starts as early as July. Also a corn maze (small per-person fee), petting zoo, playground, picnic area, horse rides at weekends in September and October for a fee, live music most weekends, and a Cider House & Bake Shop doing apple dumplings and a short lunch menu. Fresh-pressed cider $8 a gallon; honey from the orchard. HOURS: Google currently shows Friday to Sunday 11am-5pm with Monday to Thursday closed, which looks like an off-season pattern recorded just before the picking season opens - confirm before travelling midweek in autumn. Two other sites exist in downtown Peru, neither a picking location: McClure's Market 159 at the Toll House & Granary, a tasting room, cafe, florist and boutique open Tuesday to Saturday 10am-5pm.
