A 40-acre orchard a mile north of I-74 in north-west Shelby County, owned by brothers Jeff and Duane Kemper and their families; Adria Kemper is the contact. 4.7 across 758 ratings, making it one of the busiest farms listed here. U-pick apples and pre-bagged apples across more than 30 varieties, harvested July through October, plus a 2-acre u-pick pumpkin patch from roughly the last weekend in September with tractor-pulled wagon rides out to it at weekends. Country store with preserves, apple butter, fresh produce, cider and caramel apples; concession stand doing apple cobbler a-la-mode, fried biscuits with apple butter, elephant ears, corn dogs and apple cider slushies, with the elephant ears singled out by reviewers. Playground for children. Live music and events on autumn weekends. Open daily 9am-6pm, mid-July to November. Gets very busy at weekends and parking is limited when it does, so a weekday visit is the easier one. Note that in early September the pumpkins may still be mostly minis - the main patch opens later in the month. This orchard traded as Anderson Orchard until the Kempers bought it in 2013 and renamed it - a different, unrelated Anderson Orchard operates in Mooresville and is also in this directory; older sources referring to an Anderson Orchard in Shelby County mean this farm, not the Mooresville one. The orchard was started in the 1930s by the Reude family, sold to the Anderson family in the early 1990s, then to the Hopkins family mid-1990s, then to the Kempers in 2013. ACCESS: one reviewer describes the store area as entirely gravel with no ramps and no accessible parking, with picnic-style seating only - effectively unusable with a wheelchair, walker, cane or scooter.
