Tuttle Orchards

Central Indiana's best-known farm destination, east of Indianapolis, and one of the busiest in this directory at 4.7 across 1,012 ratings. Fourth-generation family farm, founded in 1928 when Roy Tuttle bought enough apple trees from Starks Brothers Nursery to fill 10 acres - neighbours thought him mad for planting so many. The family name is now Roney, after Roy's daughter Virginia married Raymond Roney, but it is the same family. Nearly 200 acres today: around 40-50 acres of apples, 30 of vegetables, a 20-acre pumpkin patch, four high tunnels and greenhouses, growing something 365 days a year. The family patented the Tuttle strain of WineSap after Roy noticed one tree on the property whose fruit did not split in heavy rain. Award-winning cider - Best Cider in Indiana, plus 2nd place in 2018 and 3rd in 2017 at the National Cider Competition. Year-round farm store with over 2,000 Indiana-made or grown products, 25 apple varieties and 50 kinds of produce, plus a farm-to-table cafe and sweet shop open all year, greenhouses, a weekly produce box subscription, and winter poinsettias, frozen pies and persimmon pulp. Roughly 20,000 visitors a year come through on tours. U-PICK IS APPLES, PUMPKINS AND FLOWERS ONLY, per the farm's own statement - the vegetables and berries are grown for the store, not for picking. U-pick apples run roughly 26 August to 31 October and u-pick pumpkins 30 September to 31 October. Google lists 9am-6pm Monday to Saturday, closed Sunday.
