Waterman's Family Farm

A large fall destination on the east side of Indianapolis, just off the interstate, opened in 1978 by Bruce and Carol Waterman as Waterman's Farm Market. 4.2 across 1,043 ratings - the second-most-reviewed farm in this directory. The founding idea was pick-your-own: customers harvest their own produce and pay less for skipping the labour, or buy the same fruit fresh-picked from the market. Admission is only charged for the Fall Festival — the rest of the year entry to the market and farm is free, which several reviewers stress and which most directory listings omit. During the festival, ride vendors and many attractions cost extra on top of the gate price, and reviewers consistently say the extras add up fast and the food is expensive. Also accepts Marion County WIC farmers market vouchers. Fall Harvest festivities run at both Waterman's sites — this record is the Raymond Street farm; there is a second site reached via SR-37 south, about a quarter mile south of the Marion/Johnson county line, and directions or hours found online may refer to either. Accounts of the pumpkin patch vary — some visitors describe bins of pre-gathered pumpkins in a field, others describe a wagon ride out to pick from the actual patch; this may depend on the year or how late in the season you visit.
